Ever since my trauma I told myself that I would live my life to the absolute fullest and do everything I want to do in life. So in August 2017, I decided to take a day trip to the Grand Canyon. It was on my bucket list for a few reasons. The Grand Canyon is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and there’s a part where you can be 4,000 feet above the Grand Canyon floor! I was so excited to go and visit. The Grand Canyon West is about a two and a half hour drive from Henderson, Nevada, where my mom lived, so it was perfect timing.
I had just drove back from Austin, Texas where I had lived for about seven months. My sister drove out from Orange County, California with one of my friend’s, so that my friend could come to the Grand Canyon with me. It was also one of her dreams. We only stayed in Henderson for a few days, so this trip was all about relaxing and going to see this natural wonder. My friend and I got a great night’s rest, and we filled up the tank and the tires for the trip. We were all ready for this adventure.
The morning came around and it was time to head out. We left at 8:00 AM and got to the parking lot around 10:35 AM. Parking was free, but to visit the part we wanted to see, we had to take a shuttle. Unfortunately, we didn’t know it would cost a good amount of money to see the Grand Canyon West, so we purchased the more economical option, which was just the shuttle to the three main viewing sites.
Up we went to the first site… and my friend and I were amazed with how beautiful it was. It definitely was worth the drive and the money we spent to see it. We took some pictures of each other and tested the limits of trying to peek over the edge– the guards were right on top of us for that. After that they watched over us very closely, but we had to peek, it was so beautiful. We got back on the shuttle and briefly viewed the other two sites. The first one was definitely the best one to see. I would love to see it again from a different view point– it was that magnificent. There were packages where you could spend more money and get a better experience, and next time I will definitely be looking into those options.
The trip to the Grand Canyon wasn’t a very long trip, as we were only there for two and a half hours. We got back to Henderson a little after 3:00 PM, and it was a pretty hot that day so we just relaxed inside and watched movies. Altogether it was a great trip that I’m glad I made… I know I will do it again soon.
